The Dynamics ‘Azure’ Data challenge:

With the advent of Azure / Cloud based versions of the Microsoft Dynamics ERP platforms (Both Dynamics 365 Finance and operations / F&O and Business Central / BC), access to the underlying databases behind these systems has grown in complexity, especially for those who have a need to take data outside of the core Dynamics Azure eco system.

Simply put, in Azure versions of Dynamics, as Microsoft are tasked with ensuring the ERP system is supported and maintained (as part of their provision to you), allowing unrestricted access to effectively ‘do as you please’ with the underlying data would negate their ability to guarantee the service provided.

The upshot of this, is that data availability isn’t perhaps as you may expect from a class leading ERP system, so in the event that you need unrestricted access, you may be somewhat hamstrung by the protective nature of the Azure Dynamics eco system and left searching for a solution to fast track your BI strategy.

The PrecisionPoint ‘Reveal’ data connector allows connectivity to either D365 F&O, or Business Central data for extraction to a destination database of your choosing, including on premise SQL server.

Within D365F&O, we can connect to the legacy Data Lake (Deprecated as of November 2024, with end of life expected sometime in 2025) or the Synapse Link Data Lake, via both the CSV layer, or the Delta Lake engine.

Within Business Central, we connect directly to the underlying database using a dedicated connection API, that will be provided as part of the solution.

With any of the connection options above, Reveal is provided on a SaaS basis, wherein the solution will host the connectivity and security between the data source (your ERP system) and the destination repository (your chosen database end point) as well as any configuration of required content – (Destination database is not included within the ‘Reveal’ solution)

Whilst the service is hosted by us, you will be provided with secured access to a dedicated UI, from which you can control your own data extract configuration - It is also possible to set up a regular extraction schedule through the PrecisionPoint support desk
